The challenge
A book publisher relied on a subcontractor in the Philippines to edit each manuscript and format it into a finished book. Every title went back and forth between the publisher, the subcontractor and the author over several rounds, and editing alone typically took four to six weeks.
The requirement
The finished files had to meet the file specifications of Ingram and Amazon, the platforms that print and distribute the publisher's books. A file that fails their checks cannot go to print.
What we built
We mapped the publisher's production process from manuscript acceptance through distribution, then replaced the subcontracted steps with AI automation. The automation edits the approved manuscript and formats it into a book file that Ingram and Amazon accept. Authors still review and approve their book at each key step.

Gold steps are now handled by AI automation. They were previously done by the offshore subcontractor.
The result
The publisher replaced its offshore subcontractor with AI automation, saving more than $1.5 million a year.
